South Africa-East Africa to Kenya. The holotype of Antihepialus keiniae states that it is from "Zanzibar". This moth was one of 137 specimens at the United States National Museum that were collected by Dr. Abbott and each was affixed with a small label with the word “Zanzibar”. A few specimens had handwritten labels giving precise locality information that was evidently clipped from envelopes originally enclosing the specimens. In some instances it was “plain to Holland (1896 p. 292) that “instead of having come from Zanzibar or its immediate vicinity…they must have come from the interior, and from a relatively high altitude above the level of the sea”.
