Systematics Monotypic. Wing venation conforms to the 'oxycanine' pattern. Viette suggested this pattern as evidence of a close relationship between Neohepialiscus and Hepialiscus, but this similarity would also apply to the other Old World genera with the oxycanine pattern. The long and narrow pseudoteguminal arms in the male genitalia of Neohepialiscus are also found in Napialus hunanensis(Grehan, 2011). There are no apparent specialised similarities between Neohepialiscus and the European genera north of the Mediterranean.
